Folding Baby Bath Tub
- A bath ( or ), bathtub (AmE), or tub (informal) is a plumbing fixture used for bathing. Most modern bathtubs are made of acrylic or fiberglass, but alternatives are available in enamel over steel or cast iron, and occasionally waterproof finished wood.

S-M-A s-26: Bathing and weighing baby
How to give baby a tub bath
The doctor will tell you when to begin tub-bathing your baby. Assemble the same equipment as for a sponge bath, except that a tub or bathinette will replace the basin of water. Fill tub or bathinette with about three inches of water that is comfortably warm to your elbow. Supporting baby's head and back with your left arm, your left hand firmly holding his left arm near the shoulder, lift baby and gently lower him into the water. While supporting him firmly with one arm and hand, clean his outer ears and eyelids and wash his face and scalp as you would for a sponge bath. Then, soap his body with your free hand, being sure to wash in all the creases. Rinse with wash cloth.
In cleansing genitals, if baby is a boy, follow doctor's instructions. If baby is a girl, separate folds of vulva and cleanse between them with a downward stroke, using cotton dipped in water.
Lift baby back on table or top of bathinette, cover him with towel, and pat dry paying careful attention to all creases and skin folds. Gently apply lotion or powder, if your doctor has so instructed you. Dress baby in clean clothes.
How to weigh baby
Baby may be weighed about once a week immediately after his bath and before you dress him. The scales should be covered with a pad. Remember to weigh the pad separately and deduct from the total. A record may be kept of his growth by plotting his weight on the graph provided on page 21.
The Bath Set-up
This is the evolution of our bath set-up, the one that works for both of us without fear or struggle.
Pink rectangle - Fold-up "travel" bath. Contains washcloth and the seat from the other tub.
Round tub - just that: one of those N. European bucket-style tubs, which I use to hold warm water for the two halves of her bath, preventing waste and allowing me to add a drop of lavender to the rinse half.
Mustela Soap-free 2-in-1 Body/Hair Wash - brilliant stuff; very gentle yet effective.
Blue bowl - water transporter; one of the accessories provided by the hospital.
Small white rectangle on tub edge - plastic soft-bristle brush, used as hair washing aid; also provided by hospital.
Squirt bottle - was for cleaning my suture site, but is now the best spot-rinser and imitation-shower ever.
There's an item not shown: a baby bath chair that we used until I got the travel tub, when she wasn't able to sit well enough for immersion baths. I still use it to set her in if she doesn't want to be separated while I get her bath set up or otherwise need to do things in the bathroom when she's feeling needy.
